The European Union must immediately lift a ban on imports of Russian oil and gas due to the threat of reduced supplies due to the war in the Middle East, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó said.
“Europe is particularly vulnerable because the EU has already banned the import of Russian energy resources. Now the conflict in the Middle East is also reducing global supply. When supply falls, prices rise. Europe thus faces the risk of sharp price increases,” Szijjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjj
He added that if the restrictions continued, they would cause “serious harm” to European citizens and the European economy.
On March 4, Szijjártó visited Moscow and met with the Russian President. During this meeting, Putin said that Russia could stop gas supplies to the European market now, without waiting for the planned cut within a month as part of the EU’s rejection of Russian gas, and instructed the government to work on the issue. At the same time, Putin noted that Russia would remain a “reliable supplier” to partners “that consider themselves reliable counterparties” – such as Slovakia, such as Hungary.
