The Iranian government on Monday blamed writer Salman Rushdie for the attack he suffered on Friday for insulting 1.5 billion Muslims and denied links to the attacker.

“We do not consider anyone but him (Rushdie) and his followers worthy of censure and even condemnation,” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani said at a press conference.
