“It is our responsibility to defend the Palestinian state”

Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlut Cavusoglu“We need to keep the brotherhood among Muslims above politics. Our voice can only be heard if we act together on issues that concern the entire Ummah.” said.

Çavuşoğlu, who was in New York, USA for the 77th General Assembly Meetings of the United Nations (UN), spoke at the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Annual Coordination Meeting.

Stating that important results can only be achieved when the Muslim world acts in solidarity, Çavuşoğlu continued as follows:

“The fact that the UN General Assembly has designated March 15 as the “International Day Against Islamophobia” is an important example of this. My dear brothers, the Qur’an says, ‘Believers are your brothers and be at peace with our brothers’. “We need to keep the brotherhood among Muslims above politics. Our voice can only be heard if we act together on issues that concern the entire Ummah.”

In his speech, where he expressed his condolences for the losses due to the floods in Pakistan, Çavuşoğlu said that as the Turkish people, they will continue to support their Pakistani brothers.

Noting that the world has become a less secure and more uncertain place today, Çavuşoğlu said, “Today, more than 2 billion people live in conflict zones. And about sixty percent of these conflicts take place in the geography of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.” shared his knowledge.

Minister Çavuşoğlu emphasized that global challenges such as increasing inequalities, health crises, food and energy uncertainty, terrorism and migration have a greater impact on OIC members and said, “For this reason, it is our responsibility to act together against these challenges. We are trying to ensure peace and stability in the working areas.” made a statement.

Stating that Turkey has concrete support for its Palestinian brothers, Çavuşoğlu said, “It is our responsibility to defend the State of Palestine, which is an independent and sovereign state, and also Jerusalem as its capital.” spoke his words.

Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu pointed out that in line with the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Resolution 2254, a permanent solution can be achieved through the political process in Syria.

Noting that holding elections in Libya, which also has a legal basis and to act with a concrete roadmap, is of great importance, Çavuşoğlu said, “The current efforts to undermine the current peace are not helping in this regard and are in a position to cause very dangerous things.” expressed his opinion.

Çavuşoğlu stated that they also support the OIC Humanitarian Trust Fund, that they consider Pakistan’s offer to reactivate the OIC’s efforts for peace and security as important, and that the OIC mediation contact group will be of great importance in order to take further steps.

Emphasizing that Turkey believes in solidarity in the Islamic world and at the same time defending the just cause of Muslims all over the world, Çavuşoğlu continued as follows:

“Turkish Cypriots face unfair isolation and embargo. We expect OIC member states to stand together with Turkish Cypriots. And the Muslim Turkish minority here in Greece are also deprived of their fundamental rights and freedoms. Their muftis are not defined and they are also “They are not allowed to use their ethnic identity and their autonomy in education. We ask one of our brothers to show solidarity with them.”

Noting that the OIC, as the second largest international organization, is the common voice against injustice against Muslims, Çavuşoğlu said, “We would like to once again express our solidarity with the Uighur Turks, Rohingya Muslims, our Kashmiri brothers, as well as the Muslim community facing injustice all over the world.” said.

Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu added that the latest report published by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights clearly reveals the human rights violations against the Uyghur Turks in China’s Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, and also contains very important recommendations for the international community.
