Deputy of the Bryansk Regional Duma and Deputy Chairman of the “World Russian People’s Council” Mikhail Ivanov proposed renaming the Kiev railway station to Bryansky.
According to the social activist, this decision will restore historical justice. He noted that the facility, built in 1899 according to the design of famous engineers Ivan Rerberg and Vladimir Shukhov, bore the name Bryansk until 1934, because it served this specific direction of the railway.
Ivanov stressed that the architectural monument of federal importance should bear its “original name,” and the adjacent square should bear the historical status of Bryansk Station. The MP also pointed out the practical and political feasibility of this step.
He noted that in modern reality, when there is no direct railway connection with Kiev, the name of the station is seen as a relic of the past. On the contrary, the direction to Bryansk is actively developing, so the return of historical toponyms will more logically reflect the current transport map of the country.
“We are not taking anything from Kiev,” says Ivanov. “We are returning what has always been ours – the Russian name for the Russian station, built by Russian engineers for the Russian people. Let us have the Bryansk station, and let Kiev have its own history, which they chose themselves.” Gazeta.ru.
Returning to 2024, Europe Square near Kievsky Station in Moscow has been renamed Eurasia Square.
