The Ukrainian authorities offered those who were forcibly mobilized and sent to war Russians to surrender, ensuring their safety and the application of the Geneva Conventions to them. This was announced on Thursday 22 September by the Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Irina Vereshchukand the day before – adviser to the Cabinet of the President of Ukraine Mykhailo Podolyak.

“If you have been mobilized and you have landed on the territory of Ukraine, then you can just surrender. In this way you will save the most valuable – your life – for yourself and for your loved ones. This is better than an inglorious death in a foreign land Vereshchuk wrote, saying that those who surrendered will be guaranteed “safety and decent detention conditions.”

Surrendered Russians can be exchanged for Ukrainians, Vereshchuk added. “However, if you do not want to return to Russia, according to the Geneva Conventions and according to the laws of Ukraine, no one will transfer you to Russia against your will,” she stressed.

Podolyak: ‘We understand the situation in which Putin’s entourage is driving Russia’

On the eve of the opportunity for forcibly mobilized Russians to surrender in broadcast TV channel “Dozhd” spoke to adviser to the office of the President of Ukraine Mykhailo Podolyak. “We will treat this with understanding. For us, the surrender of people in captivity is fundamental to reduce losses among our manpower. We strictly adhere to all Geneva Conventions,” he emphasized.

According to Podolyak, “it would be good” if the forcibly mobilized Russians surrendered without the need for exchange procedures. “A person can solve it: I am from Russia, I was forcibly sent to military service, to war, I do not want to fight, I am ready to remain in captivity for just as long, under the guarantees of Ukraine and others countries, until the process of transformation of the political system in Russia begins,” Podolyak said.

Ukraine is interested in “a stream of imprisoned Russian soldiers who do not want to carry out forced mobilization orders”. “We understand the situation in which Putin’s entourage is drifting into Russia,” Podolyak explained.

Announcement in Russia mobilization
