Legendary Slovakian defender Zdeno Hara has announced his retirement from hockey. press office Boston Bruins, Ukrinform reports.

The 45-year-old played in 1,680 NHL games (24 seasons), setting the record for most games played by a defender.

The Slovakian hockey player won the Stanley Cup in 2011 and was recognized as the best defender in the NHL in 2009. As part of the Slovakian national team, he won two silver medals at the World Championships and silver at the Ice Hockey World Cup.
