Johnny Walker is the latest Brazilian fighter to be added to the exciting UFC 283 card. The pay-per-view will take place in Rio de Janeiro on January 21 next year and it will be the first time since March 2020 that an event UFC will take place in Brazil.

The Brazilian is 2-2 in his last four fights and will face jiu-jitsu scholar Paul Craig at UFC 283. Craig is currently ranked No. 8 in the UFC light heavyweight division and a win for Walker would be a massive statement.

Johnny Walker broke the news on Twitter saying:

“My next fight will be January 21, 2023, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil”

UFC 283 will see a fourth title fight between Deiveson Figueiredo and Brandon Moreno. The pair will headline the pay-per-view event for the UFC flyweight title.

Brazilian and MMA legend Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua will also participate in the card. A former UFC light heavyweight champion, “Shogun” boasts one of the most impressive resumes in MMA history.

Rua last fought at UFC 274 and said he would like to fight twice more before hanging up the gloves. However, a chance to bow out in front of a home crowd may be the most ideal situation for ‘Shogun’.

Watch Johnny Walker lift 300kg for his warm-up set

Johnny Walker is one of the most explosive and dynamic athletes in the UFC. With 15 of his 19 wins via KO/TKO, it’s clear to see just how much his physique plays a role in his success.

Since suffering a shoulder injury in a victory celebration at UFC 235, Walker has struggled somewhat in his career. Prior to the injury, the Brazilian had a nine-game winning streak. Since then, Johnny Walker has gone 2-4 in the promotion.

The shoulder injury may have hampered Walker’s performance in the octagon. However, it seems like he’s still incredibly strong in the gym. A video uploaded to his Twitter account several weeks ago shows him lifting 300kg for a “warm-up set”.

In the video, you can hear Walker say:

“How much can you lift Jon Jones? It’s 300kg.”
