Manchester United fans have mocked goalkeeper Martin Dubravka as the Slovak returned early from international duty through injury.
The Red Devils have announced that the loanee has suffered a fitness problem as he prepares for the UEFA Nations League with Slovakia.
Dubravka joined Erik ten Hag’s side from Newcastle United on loan last summer and is yet to make a competitive appearance for the Red Devils.
He is competing with David De Gea for the No.1 shirt at Old Trafford but his injury will be a huge setback for the player.
Despite this, Manchester United fans took the time to poke fun at the Slovak keeper, saying they didn’t want him.
Here are some Twitter reactions from fans ridiculing his early return from the international break:
The Slovak made 130 appearances for Newcastle before joining Manchester United.
He kept 37 clean sheets in those games and was praised for his shot-stopping abilities.
According to Sky Sports, United will pay a £6million fee if the goalkeeper makes a number of appearances which would see his switch become permanent.
However, the injury he picked up on international duty may only jeopardize any plans for the veteran keeper to stay at Old Trafford.
He was signed following two unconvincing performances from De Gea in the Red Devils’ opening two defeats to Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford.
The Spaniard has improved with Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez in a centre-back partnership ahead of him.
Manchester United are still looking for a long-term successor to De Gea
It’s obvious that Ten Hag’s side will have to replace De Gea as soon as possible.
The Spanish shot-stopper is now 31 and the longest-serving player at Old Trafford, with 495 appearances.
He joined the Red Devils from Atletico Madrid in 2011 for £22.5million.
However, his performances have seemingly regressed over time and the Spaniard doesn’t appear to be the top goalkeeper he has been for so many years.
Who targets Manchester United as a permanent De Gea replacement remains to be seen, but there are plenty of promising keepers to choose from.
The Premier League has players like David Raya from Brentford, Robert Sanchez from Brighton & Hove Albion and Illan Meslier from Leeds United.
Meanwhile, FC Porto’s Diogo Costa, Athletic Bilbao’s Unai Simon and AC Milan’s Mike Maignan are impressing abroad.
