A new YouGov poll shows Americans broadly approve of the FBI search of former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home in Palm Beach, Florida.
The survey surveyed 1,500 adult US citizens between August 13 and August 16, 2022.
The poll found that 42% of Americans “strongly approve” of the FBI executing a search warrant in connection with its investigation into whether Trump violated the Presidential Records Act, while 12% of Americans say they “somewhat approve” of it. .
Comparatively, 36% say they disapprove, with 9% saying they “disapprove a little” and 29% say they “disapprove strongly”.
The partisan collapse is also blatant. While 86% of Democrats approve of the search, 72% of Republicans disapprove in some way. Opinion among independents is more divided, with 47% supporting the poll and 37% disapproving, while 17% are “not sure”.
The search comes a week after the FBI executed the search warrant and Trump vehemently criticized the FBI’s actions.
The same poll found that Americans were split between whether the search was a serious attempt to find out what really happened or politically motivated, with 39% saying the search was a serious attempt to find out what really happened, while 36% said it was was politically driven. But 14% said the FBI was motivated by both, and 11% said they weren’t sure.
But 56 percent of people surveyed said they disapprove of Trump having documents related to nuclear weapons, with Republicans evenly split into 37 percent approving and disapproving, and 53 percent of independents disapproving.
