Mikey Musumeci breaks the mold for all the “nerds” out there.

The American grappler picked up the biggest victory of his career when he defeated Cleber Sousa by unanimous decision last weekend at ONE on Prime Video 2. In doing so, he became the first ONE flyweight submission grappling world champion. .

Musumeci, like any athlete of the current generation, posted on Instagram how important his world title victory was. One of the people who showed their support for the new world champion was Meta Platforms CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

The tech visionary and mixed martial arts student wrote a simple congratulatory message to Musumeci in the comments section.

“Congratulations! 👏”

Musumeci then responded to Zuckerberg and carried the flag of all the nerds in the world.

“@zuck gotta try to hold it down for us nerds 🤣❤️😊.”

Musumeci, who won five world Brazilian jiu-jitsu titles before entering the ONE Championship, also ended his rivalry with Sousa following his victory at ONE on Prime Video 2.

Sousa and Musumeci fought twice in 2017, with both grapplers picking up a victory each. ‘Clandestino’ won a decisive victory at the 2017 Pan Jiu-Jitsu Championship in March of the same year, but this lead only lasted a month.

‘Darth Rigatoni’ got his reward when he took a points win over Sousa at the 2017 Abu Dhabi World Pro.

Although their stalemate lasted half a decade, the Musumeci could not have asked for a better capper than the one he got in Singapore.

Mikey Musumeci calls for a match against Demetrious Johnson

After his victory over Sousa, Mikey Musumeci quickly turned to one of the best grapplers in mixed martial arts history.

Just minutes after being handed the 26.4-pound world champion belt, Musumeci respectfully challenged ONE World Flyweight Champion Demetrious Johnson to a wrestling match.

Mikey Musumeci said he didn’t want to call Johnson and it was just a request for them to meet in a game. He expressed that his desire to fight Johnson was not for personal gain, but for a larger audience to see and appreciate what submission grappling is all about.

“Right now, my dream match would be with Demetrious ‘Mighty Mouse’ Johnson. Just because of how many eyes we could have on the battling submission with me and such a legend like him. For me now, I won all the titles I wanted in jiu-jitsu, literally all the titles I wanted. So now for me it’s all about impacting others and getting as many people as possible to watching and doing jiu-jitsu,” Mikey Musumeci said.
