Neymar was left in tears on the Brazil bench with an apparent ankle injury sustained in the World Cup win over Serbia.
The PSG star appeared to be injured when tackled during a second-half counterattack in the 2-0 win at the Lusail stadium.
He continued to play before being taken off in the 79th minute before getting ice stuck to his ankle and was visibly distraught as team personnel worked on him.
Asked why he didn’t make this decision sooner, coach Tite said: “I didn’t see that Neymar was injured. The ability he has to overcome it, that bothers me. cheated. I only saw it now when I watched the video.
Team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar was suspicious of the prognosis after the match, indicating there was ‘trauma’ to the ankle but they may need to wait 24-48 hours for a full assessment .
Tite, however, remained enthusiastic about his star man. “We are convinced that Neymar will continue to play in the World Cup,” he added.
Defender Danilo also picked up an ankle problem, hobbling in the final minutes.
The five-time winners will face Switzerland on Monday.
Two goals from Richarlison were enough to secure all three points on Thursday night and top the fledgling group alongside the Swiss who beat Cameroon earlier in the day.
