San Francisco police new rules adoptedfrom which the clause about the impossibility of using robots as lethal force was removed.

Now the decision to use robots against humans will be made depending on the specific situation and the level of risk of criminals.

“Robots will only be used as lethal force when the risk of death to members of the public or officers is imminent and outweighs any other option,” says the new version of the police rules, which will soon be voted on by the Council of Surveillance .

At the same time, the authorities of the metropolis note that although a little more than a dozen robots are employed by law enforcement officers, they are usually not used as power tools, but serve, for example, to monitor suspicious devices or imitate situations in police training.

Perhaps the only known case of using a robot to kill a criminal was an incident that took place in 2016. Then the security forces attached explosives to the mechanism designed to neutralize explosives and thus destroyed the sniper who had five officers killed.
