Bleach: Bloody Thousand Year War episode 7, titled Born in the dark, opens with an original animated scene from the war of 1000 years ago, as the first generation Gotei 13 successfully defeats the Quincy and seals Yhwach. How Sasakibe played a central role in Yhwach’s eventual defeat was something that had been kept under wraps until this episode.

The episode then picked up with the events of the previous episode as Yhwach managed to cut Yamamoto in half. Viewers were treated to a flashback scene in which the Captain-Commander worked with Shunsui Kyoraku. Currently, Yhwach was ready to leave when Yamamoto intervened. Yhwach immediately cut off Yamamoto’s arm and started gossiping about the original Gotei 13 and how the later generations got weaker.

Yhwach killed Yamamoto after which he ordered Jugram Haschwalth to have Wandenreich soldiers destroy Soul Society. The Sternritter opened the portals for soldiers to enter as they annihilated any enemy they could spot. It was then that Ichigo escaped from Quilge Opie’s prison, immediately saving Akon and heading towards Byakuya Kuchiki.

Byakuya questioned Ichigo about Rukia and Renji’s status, after which he continued to ask him for a favor. The captain of Division 6 was ashamed of his condition but had no choice but to ask the Substitute Shinigami for help, as he urged him to protect Soul Society. Enraged, Ichigo flew off to fight Yhwach, who immediately caught up to him.

While Yhwach and Jugram wanted to return to Wandenreich, Ichigo was too adamant about fighting the enemy leader, which convinced Yhwach to fight him. As Yhwach dominated the battle, Ichigo’s Getsuga Tensho posed a threat even to King Wandenreich, prompting him to slit Ichigo’s neck.

Ichigo, on the other hand, managed to stay alive, thanks to a certain ability, upon which Yhwach exclaimed, “Blut Vene”, which was a Quincy technique. Yhwach explained that sending Quilge to stop Ichigo was a mistake because Sternritter’s reiatsu managed to reawaken Ichigo’s spirit pressure memories.

Thing is, Quilge Opie’s prison is only for capturing enemies, so it can’t trap a Quincy. Yhwach hinted that Ichigo was inherently a Quincy through his mother’s line. But because Ichigo himself was unaware of his mother’s secret, Yhwach refused to explain himself and decided to attack Ichigo.

However, his time in Soul Society had ended as he and the Sternritter were forced to return to Wandenreich. Just as Yhwach entered a portal, Ichigo attacked him and Jugram defended him by cutting Ichigo’s Zanpakuto in half. Yhwach asked Ichigo to heal and wait for him until he could bring him to Wandenreich, referring to him as his dark-born son.

Bleach: Bloody Thousand Year War Episode 7 left a lot of mysteries for fans, as Yhwach called Ichigo his son and hinted at his lineage and the possibility of him having the powers of a Quincy. Although the details of the same have yet to be revealed, it seems that Ichigo’s mother was a Quincy, which would inherently make her half-Quincy and half-Shinigami.

Now that the Wandenreich army has finally withdrawn, the Gotei 13 can finally take a look at the situation and calculate the number of casualties. They will need to get back on their feet quickly as they have already lost thousands of Shinigami, followed by Captain-Commander Yamamoto Shigekuni.
