Malaga, (EFE).- Pepe Mel Malaga’s new coach replacing the Argentinean Pablo Guede, who left his post after an agreement with the organization, said the Malaga club. Pepe Mel will immediately take over as coach of the blue and whites and will have his first training session this afternoon after the presentation.

José Mel Pérez (28-2-1963, Madrid) started his professional football career in the 2000-2001 campaign managing the Real Murcia team in LaLiga SmartBank and has managed the teams in all campaigns to date.

Tenerife, Getafe, Alaves, Polideportivo Ejido, Rayo Vallecano, Betis, West Bromwich Albion, Deportivo de la Coruña and Las Palmas are the clubs where Pepe Mel built his career.

No problem talking about promotion

In his presentation, Mel assured that he had “no problem with promotion”, referring to the Andalusian club’s goal after the team’s poor start to the season.

“I saw Malaga changing, wanting to do well, but no luck, like the other day in Tenerife (3-1). I came to add, to help and to make my work available to the club,” said the Madrid coach in the press room at the La Rosaleda stadium.

Mel recalled the previous coach of Malaguita, who placed his position at the disposal of the club due to the negative trajectory that the team is on. He said that “Pablo was not lucky, especially in such an important matter as injuries, and this reduces the team’s chances.”

Coach urges team to cheer up

In terms of team players, with some players he knows from playing with other teams such as striker Rubén Castro, defender Juanfran Moreno or Senegalese midfielder Alfred Ndiaye, he indicated that he hoped to “connect” with them and that they see him “support to guide them along the way.”

Pepe Mel, who captained Betis in two rounds, Rayo Vallecano, Deportivo or Las Palmas, among other teams last season, said that to try and lift their spirits, “this team needs to clear head”, and that is why they have no better means than to achieve this in the next game, next Saturday at home against Villarreal B.

Asked about Málaga’s losing streak since last season as they haven’t won at home for ten months and the last win at La Rosaleda was against Las Palmas (2-1) and with Pepe Mel on the bench substitutes, he emphasized that “When you don’t win, it feels natural and that’s the worst thing that can happen in the locker room.”

“Experience” and “believe” in a difficult situation

Malaguista’s new coach, who has pledged to stay at the club until June 30, admitted that the situation is “difficult” with the penultimate side in the standings with three points in six games, but said that he had already “experienced it in other circumstances”. and with other clubs”, for which he considered the main thing that the players “believe” in him.

Pepe Mel will be assisted by former Málaga and Betis player Nacho Perez, who will leave his duties at Malaga Feminino, and physical education coach Nacho Oria, who will return to the blue and white club after a period with Victor Sánchez del Amo.
