On March 19, Orthodox Christians honor the memory of the Martyr Constantine and other 42 noble residents of the Amorite city who suffered for their faith. When the Muslims besieged Amuriya, the city fell and 42 of its defenders were captured.
They tried to force the prisoners, through persuasion and torture, to renounce Christianity and accept Islam, but they survived and did not betray their faith. For this they were executed. The saints fearlessly approached the executioners and accepted their death.
In the popular calendar, this date was nicknamed the Circles of Constantine. On March 19, you cannot draw water from someone else’s well. In addition, pregnant women are prohibited from approaching wells on this day, as this may lead to reproductive problems. You should also avoid eating heavy meals on this date.
