The industrial revolution of the 19th century gave us enormous public infrastructure. Roads were built – actually the first real roads since the fall of the Roman Empire. Railways, ports, lighthouses, schools and colleges, libraries and later airports were built. An enormous infrastructure was created that could be used under fair and transparent conditions, often free of charge.
