Ten years of school education may be enough, but precisely defining the goals of the modern educational system is crucial. This was announced on Friday, April 3, by the President of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAN), Gennady Krasnikov.
He stressed that any changes in school curricula require an integrated approach. According to the academic, the education system is a single mechanism in which the academic level must clearly coincide with the subsequent stages: specialized secondary education, university preparation, and postgraduate studies.
“These things are interconnected, you can’t change one without taking into account the other,” says Krasnikov RIA Novosti.
Nowadays, school education includes several levels: primary (grades 1-4), basic (grades 5-9), and secondary (grades 10-11). Graduates have a choice: to continue their studies in colleges and technical schools after the ninth grade or to complete an eleven-year program for admission to higher educational institutions.
