People in the occupied territories are not allowed to participate in the passporting and organization of a pseudo-referendum, so as not to be criminally liable.

This said Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk on the ether of the telethon, reports Ukrinform.

“If officials have been given a Russian passport to hold a position in the occupation administration, they will be punished criminally. Like those who propaganda or otherwise forced people to obtain Russian passports, they too will be held accountable. For example, the so-called passport offices, where they did everything they could to force passports to Ukrainians. Just like those who have reduced people’s rights: for example, if you don’t take a Russian passport, you can’t be treated in a hospital or get any other help. Those who do this will be responsible for this,” Vereshchuk said.

She recalled that the government had passed a law providing for criminal liability for knowingly obtaining a Russian passport and for participating in the organization and holding pseudo-referendums.

“This does not apply if a person under pressure participated in a referendum, if it was not for propaganda or demonstration. There are also cases when retirees were deprived of the right to a pension, and only in the event that you provided your personal information, you could count on food aid or receive some sort of basic payment – of course, such people will not be held accountable. We clearly distinguish: it is one thing when there was a dead end, and another thing when the conditional chairman of the RGA or a deputy of the city council does this deliberately,” emphasized the deputy prime minister.

She stressed that the people of the occupied territories should do everything they can not to participate in this, especially not to be with the organizers of the referendum, not to participate in the district commission.

As Ukrinform pointed out, if people in the occupied territories did not participate in the occupation structures, then they should not fear criminal prosecution.
