Russia builds defensive strips in northern Crimea – DW – 11/23/2022

On the 273rd day Russian large-scale military invasion of Ukraine Russian troops continue to try to control the neighboring country’s captured settlements. The armed forces and units of the territorial defense of Ukraine resist aggression. It is impossible to verify the statements of representatives of both parties from independent sources. DW continues to follow developments Wednesday, November 23 (Moscow time).

European parliament accepted resolution recognizing Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism due to the military aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.
By declaring Russia a state sponsor of terrorism, MEPs want to pave the way for holding Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Russian government accountable before an international tribunal, according to the European Parliament’s website.

According to Ukrainian military intelligence, Russian troops are actively preparing for the defense of the annexed Crimea, building defensive lines on the edge of the peninsula and in its northern part. “They are creating a defense zone both on the left bank of the Dnieper in the Kherson region and on the administrative border with Crimea, in the north of the peninsula. In particular, they are building two position areas in the northern part of the Dzhankoy. This is very important for them, because as a result of the counter-offensive of the Ukrainian forces, northern Crimea will be an area of defeat for the armed forces of Ukraine,” said Andriy Chernyak, a representative of the Ministry’s Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR). of Defense of Ukraine, said in an interview with Ukrinform.

At the same time, he noted that the Russians and collaborators evacuating from the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions are trying to get not to Crimea, but to the territory of Russia. “Even they understand that somehow Crimea will be lost to Russia and will return to Ukraine,” he added.
