The transportation of gas through the Power of Siberia pipeline will be suspended for a week due to “preventative work specified in the contract.”

It has been reported by Ukrinform with reference to Telegram Channel Gazprom.

“Planned maintenance work on the Power of Siberia gas pipeline will take place from September 22 to 29. During this period, gas transport will be temporarily suspended. In accordance with the gas purchase and sales agreement for the eastern route between Gazprom and the Chinese company CNPC, preventive maintenance is performed on the equipment and systems of the Power of Siberia gas pipeline twice a year: in spring and autumn.

Contract for gas deliveries to China on the Power of Siberia gas pipeline was shut down in 2014. It is designed to deliver 38 billion cubic meters. m of gas per year for 30 years. The gas pipeline itself was launched in 2019 and is expected to reach full capacity in 2024. In February 2022, a multi-year contract was also signed for the purchase and sale of natural gas along the Far East route. After the project reaches full capacity, the volume of gas deliveries from Russian pipelines to China will increase by 10 billion cubic meters, reaching a total of 48 billion cubic meters per year.

After a large-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine and aid from the democratic countries to Ukraine, the Russian Federation is causing an energy crisis in Europe. Over the summer, Gazprom reduced supplies through Nord Stream under various pretexts. On July 15, the gas pumping was reduced to 60% of the planned figure, later – to 20%.
