Russian skater Ivan Golubkov won the gold medal at the Paralympic Games in Italy. He became first in the 10 km time trial in the sitting category.

Golubkov, competing in the LW11.5 category (athletes with lesions of the lower extremities and trunk), showed a result of 25 minutes and six seconds.

Chinese Mao Zhongyu won second place (26:12.2), and third place was won by his compatriot Cheng Ping (26:14.7).

Ivan Golubkov is a six-time world champion and nine-time World Cup winner in cross-country skiing and biathlon.

This is the third gold medal for Russian athletes at the Paralympic Games in Italy. Earlier, Varvara Voronchikhina won the Super-G, and skater Anastasia Bagiyan won the gold medal in the classic speed race among athletes with visual impairment.

For the first time since 2014, Russia will compete in the Paralympics under its own flag and national anthem.
