Romanian President Klaus Iohannis said Russia’s unleashed war against Ukraine constituted unacceptable violations of the norms and principles of international law, including fundamental human rights.

Iohannis said this from the podium of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly, reports Ukrinform.

“The consequences of this war are global and not limited to our security issues. They cause unacceptable violations of the norms and principles of international law, including international humanitarian law and fundamental human rights. Moreover, they influence sustainable development all over the world,” said the Romanian leader.

He added that this should be a concern for all states, however far they may be from the war.

“There can be no justification for military aggression against a sovereign state. There can be no justification for bloodshed, destruction and human suffering. It is our common responsibility to come together and protect our common values as members of the UN,” emphasized Iohannis.

The president Romania stressed the need to act immediately and support all those who fight for freedom and democracy.

“We must guarantee respect for the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of all states,” he concluded.

As Ukrinform reported, UN Secretary-General António Guterres believes the United Nations Charter and the ideals it represents are under threat.
