Russian alpine skier Varvara Voronchikhina won the slalom and became a two-time Paralympic champion in Italy.
Voronchikhina has already taken gold in the super-G, silver in the giant slalom, and bronze in the downhill.
This is the fifth gold medal for Russian athletes at the Paralympic Games in Italy. In addition to Voronchikhina, the gold medal was won by skier Ivan Golubkov (10 km time trial race in the sitting category) and pair skater Anastasia Bagyan (classical speed race among athletes with visual impairment, as well as in the 10 km time trial race for athletes with visual impairment). The Russians also won a silver medal and three bronze medals. In the overall medal standings at the Paralympics, Russia ranks fifth.
