Sweden to continue NATO talks with Turkey

Commissioned by Swedish Parliament Speaker Andreas Norlen to form a government, Kristersson made statements about Turkey and NATO talks.

According to the news of the state television SVT, Kristersson noted that the NATO negotiations with Turkey are continuing in earnest.

Stressing that Oscar Stenström, the secretary of former Prime Minister Magdalena Anderssons, will continue the talks as the chief negotiator, Kristersson said, “The developments in the world do not stop because there is an election in Sweden. The NATO issue is as important today as it was before the election. The issue will continue to be important until the end of the negotiations. I have great confidence in Oscar Stenström, Anderssons’ secretary, in his ability to lead these negotiations.” she said.

On the other hand, according to the unofficial election results in the country, right-wing parties received 49.6 percent, while minority government and ruling left-wing parties received 48.9 percent. Accordingly, in the 349-seat parliament, the right-wing parties won 176, and the left-wing parties won 173.

After this picture, the task of forming a government was given to the moderate Conservative Party (M) leader Ulf Kristersson.

The Tripartite Memorandum was signed by Turkey, Finland and Sweden at the NATO Madrid Summit on 28 June. The first meeting of the Permanent Joint Mechanism established within the framework of the memorandum was held in Vantaa, Finland, on 26 August.
