In what has been by far the best season of his career, Aaron Judge is one step closer to baseball immortality.
The New York Yankees slugger landed his 60th home run of the year Tuesday night against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Judge is just one big swing away from equaling Roger Maris’ long-standing American League record for most homers in a season. He also tied Babe Ruth’s total of 60 homers, becoming the third Yankee in history to reach that milestone.
Speaking to reporters after the game, Judge spoke about his historic achievement. Calm as ever, he left a sincere message to Yankees fans.
“To have the chance to play baseball at Yankee Stadium in a packed house with a first-place team is what you dream of.” – Judge Aaron
What Aaron Judge has done this season goes beyond home runs. He currently holds the highest batting average (.316) in the AL. He also has a league-leading 128 RBI to his name.
Judge is due to enter free agency after this season, which worries Yankees fans. They want to see their main man stay beyond 2022 and want the club to pay whatever it takes to extend his stay.
Therefore, Judge is in line to win MLB’s first triple crown since Miguel Cabrera in 2012. If successful, he would also become the first Yankee since Mickey Mantle in 1956 to accomplish the feat.
A group of friends return Aaron Judge’s 60th HR ball for free
Behind every historic home run, there’s a fight in the stands vying for a priceless collectible. These historic bullets can fetch up to millions on the market.
As expected, many fans got involved in a fight for Judge’s 60th HR ball.
Eventually, it was a group of friends who claimed bragging rights. Unexpectedly, they made the noble decision to return the ball to the Yankees clubhouse – with no money in return.
As a token of gratitude, the Yankees presented autographed baseballs and bats to all band members.
“The group of kids who caught Aaron Judge’s 60th HR ball asked for nothing in return because they gave so much to the organization.” They always have autographed baseballs and bats. Fleece of the century? » – Sports stool
The judge’s final home run of the season, whatever number turns out to be, could fetch a record amount in the sports memorabilia market.
