The brutal reaction of Paul Scholes to the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has issued a cold reaction to news that Cristiano Ronaldo is leaving the club by mutual consent, according to UnitedInFocus.

The Portuguese icon’s explosive interview with Piers Morgan was published in excerpts just hours after United’s 2-1 Premier League win over Fulham on November 13.

Ronaldo made manager Erik ten Hag, Wayne Rooney and Gary Neville, among others, the target of his comments. He said he doesn’t consider his former Manchester United teammates as friends, but rather as colleagues.

Scholes fired back at criticism from his former teammates in his own way. The former England international shared a message confirming Ronaldo’s departure from the club and wrote:

“Mission accomplished…a***d!!”

The Instagram story has apparently been deleted now.

Scholes appears to imply that the purpose of Cristiano Ronaldo’s interview with Morgan was to force a United exit. He wanted to leave the club this summer, but super-agent Jorge Mendes couldn’t find him a suitable club.

Perhaps the prospect of signing the 37-year-old on a free transfer would be a little more appealing to some of Europe’s biggest clubs. However, his salary demands could prove to be an obstacle for many teams.

Ronaldo was paid £500,000 a week in wages per week at Old Trafford. Scholes’ reaction, meanwhile, reflects the feelings of many United fans, who no doubt felt alienated from Ronaldo after his latest antics.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner left Old Trafford twice before the full-time whistle of this campaign – first against Rayo Vallecano and then against Tottenham Hotspur in October.

It ends a long saga that seemed to have started when manager Erik ten Hag became United manager in the summer.

Compared to Scholes, former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand’s reaction to Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure was far more disappointing.

Speaking on the BBC (h/t the Mirror) after Mexico’s 0-0 draw with Poland on November 22, Ferdinand remarked:

“He obviously did this interview with the mindset that he wanted out of the football club.

“[He] was not happy, was very clear, but I also think that Erik ten Hag also got what he wanted in this situation. Both parties happy, move on, next chapter for Cristiano Ronaldo.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s main target at the moment will be the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Manchester United’s Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes are set to play alongside Ronaldo when Portugal face Ghana in their first group game on November 24 .
