For this reason, the purpose Miguel Delibes Foundation to restore, starting in 2023, all the manuscripts of his books, which he keeps in his archive, including the manuscript of “El Hereje” (1998), a novel that will turn a quarter of a century next year and will be the object of preferential attention with a large exhibition.
Historian Mario Crespo, author of the edition and critical study “El Hereje” published by the Cátedra label, will be the curator of this exhibition, which will open in the last quarter of 2023 with a triple philosophical, historical and geographical aspect based on original collections from various files.
It will show the reality of Castile in the 16th century, the time when that call for freedom of conscience, which Delibes signed at the end of his life and his work, was registered and put into the Protestant focus then existing in Valladolid, hard. repressed, explained the director of the Miguel Delibes Foundation, Fernando Samacola.
This exhibition, whose location has yet to be determined and which will coincide with the opening of the foundation’s new headquarters, will be open for “five or six months” and will initially include a restored manuscript of “El Hereje” with more than seventy pages affected by the flood that hit the writer’s house in June 2011.
With the exception of The Long Shadow of the Cypress, the first novel, “the foundation preserves all manuscripts,” which, due to the acidic composition of the paper used by Delibes, are easily damaged, Zamacola explained during a press conference where he presented the activities planned for 2022/2023 academic year.
Among them is a digital edition of the dictionary with terms, expressions, words and phrases included in novels, essays and articles related to, among other things, peasant speech, topography, flora, fauna and hunting jargon.
Another of the planned events is the broadcast, starting from October 5, on channel La 8 Valladolid Radio Televisión Castilla y León of short readings of two or three minutes in length, fragments of the works of Miguel Delibes, which will be interspersed between programs and institutional representatives, from the field of culture and citizens will play a major role.
“We want to show that we are all Delibes readers” by promoting the reading and knowledge of his works and “showing his connection to all walks of life,” he elaborated.
“Voices of Delibes”, the slogan of this initiative, will initially consist of 45 videos, which will circulate for about a year and a half.
On October 17, the writer’s birthday, in Molledo (Cantabria), the birthplace of El Camino, the Shared Memories project will begin, eight intergenerational meetings between adults and adolescents to share knowledge.
Finally, among other things, the Miguel Delibes Foundation will open on 14 October in Valladolid the exhibition “Beyond the novels”, prepared by the Community of Madrid and dedicated to theater and cinema as a personal and literary direction of the writer.
His association with cinema as an amateur actor, extra, dubbing actor, critic and cartoonist will share thematic space with other theatrical and cinematic adaptations of his novels, and will include as a novelty the film adaptation of El Camino (1963). ). ), the first film version of Delibes’ story, directed by Anna Mariscal and reinstating her son.
