One of the positive results of the transfer of the IRIS-T air defense system from Germany to Ukraine turned out to be that this step became an example for other partners.
This view was expressed by the German ambassador to Ukraine, Anka Feldhusen, during a video event organized by the German Foreign Policy Society, a Ukrinform correspondent reports.
“The delivery of IRIS-T really motivated other partners, who also donated air defense systems, very strongly, and this was one of the most positive aspects,” said the diplomat.
She recalled that the IRIS-T air defense system was transferred to Ukraine literally the next day after the shelling by the Russian Federation and proved to be very effective.
In general, the ambassador stressed, Germany supplies a large amount to Ukraine weaponsand the federal government regularly updates lists of weapons scheduled for transfer.
Feldhusen also said that Germany is helping Ukraine repair energy infrastructure damaged by Russian missiles.
She called Kiev’s political support from Berlin very important, in particular German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s call at the German-Ukrainian Business Forum to invest in Ukraine as a future EU member. Feldhusen emphasized that the desire to join the European Union is one aspect of the motivation of the Ukrainians, who show an extraordinary fighting spirit.
The head of the German diplomatic mission added that it was an honor for her to be in Kiev at these times, despite all the daily difficulties.
As reported, the representative of the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Yuriy Ignat said that one of the priorities of the defenders of Ukrainian airspace is the reception of such air defense systems as IRIS-T and NASAMS.
