The English-language Wikipedia has imposed a complete ban on writing articles using neural networks, The Verge writes.
Editors will now be able to use AI only for basic proofreading of existing texts, if no new content is added in the process. In addition, translation of articles from one language to another using language models is permitted – but all such translations must be verified by the author.
The decision was made on the basis that AI-generated texts violate several basic rules of the platform.
Elon Musk launched the Grokipedia project in October 2025, where all articles are created and edited using the Grok AI model. As of early 2026, there were six million articles (there are 7.1 million on English-language Wikipedia). Grokipedia articles written by artificial intelligence are regularly criticized for their right-wing bias and conspiracy theories.
