Russians are limited in issuing visas

To deprive Russians of visas and residence permits would be short-sighted and dangerous for Latvia. This was stated by Grigory Karasin, Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs.

“It’s sad, because nothing in our history has been more regrettable than a feeling of some kind of exorbitant hatred for everything Russian, uttered by their lips, but, of course, imposed from afar by Washington, European capitals. A very short-sighted statement that is dangerous for these states themselves,” Karasin said in an interview. life.

According to him, this decision will remain in historical memory and then it will be difficult to “disown” it. Karasin called this initiative “an outrage.” According to him, if Latvia begins to take away visas and residence permits from Russians, this will be a gross political mistake that will be relevant for many decades to come. The Federation Council will need to decide how to respond to this and whether to take retaliatory measures, Karasin said.

Earlier, the President of Latvia, Egils Levits, demanded that the already issued visas or residence permits be taken away from foreigners supporting the Russian special operation in Ukraine. Latvia banned the issuance of visas to Russian citizens and called on the European Union to ban the issuance of Schengen visas. Latvia also recognized Russia as a sponsor of terrorism, Tsargrad reports.
