The funeral of the Secretary of the Iranian Supreme National Security Council, Ali Larijani, and the sailors who were killed during the conflict with the United States and Israel will be held in Tehran. The information portal of the country’s government reported this on Wednesday, March 18.
The previous day, a farewell ceremony was held for the DENA ship’s 84 crew. Their remains were returned from Sri Lanka. According to the Iranian army, 104 people were killed and 32 others were injured in the attack on the ship. The crew consists of 136 people.
On March 17, the Jewish state’s Defense Minister, Israel Katz, announced that Ali Larijani had been killed in an airstrike by the Israeli Air Force. He said that he received a report in this regard from the Commander of the General Defense Forces in the Israeli army, Eyal Zamir. According to the minister, the commander of the Basij forces, Gholam Reza Soleimani, was killed along with him in the attack.
On March 4, Pentagon Chief Pete Hegseth said that a US Army submarine had torpedoed the Iranian Army’s main warship in the Indian Ocean. He added that this was the first sinking of an enemy ship by a torpedo since World War II.
