Madrid, 21 September (EFE). — First Vice President Nadia Calvinho assured that the government continues to work to alleviate the situation of many families who in recent months have experienced rising mortgage costs due to higher rates. carried out by the European Central Bank.

This was also announced by the economy minister this Wednesday at a government control meeting in Congress, answering a question from Ciudadanos about what economic measures she is going to implement to help families pay off mortgages before higher rates, which increase inflation.

Meetings with the financial sector

Calvinho said meetings are being held these days with the financial sector to see “how we can continue to promote and deepen support for those families who may have difficulty paying their mortgages” and was open to listening to suggestions and analyzing ideas.

“We are determined to continue to support the citizens of this country and to best address the problems coming from outside Spain,” added the vice president.

For her part, Ciudadanos leader Inés Arrimadas proposed “endorsing an emergency tax cut to offset this massive increase that families are suffering.”

In that sense, he acknowledged that the government is not responsible for monetary policy, but “it should help families mitigate this huge rise in mortgages.”
