One of the most striking military projects of our time, of course, was the painting by Mikhail Ptashuk “In August 44 …” – a film adaptation of Vladimir Bogomolov’s novel “The Moment of Truth” in 1974. The book and the film masterfully mimic the atmosphere of the Great Patriotic War and the complex work of counterintelligence officers who discovered double agents and saboteurs among colleagues. The film drama was released 11 years ago – and now the REN TV channel has decided to release its own version of that work. Only as a tape with four episodes. The series was produced by Alexey Pimanov, Andrey Tartakov and Vladimir Tyulin, directed by Sergey Vinogradov (“According to the Laws of War”). The project was called “Operation Neman”, the shooting has already been completed – and while the project is going through the final stage of production, “KP” decided to compare the images of the heroes of the upcoming series and the 2001 picture.

CAPTAIN ALECHIN

The experienced and cunning SMERSH captain Alekhine, who was looking for a group of spies and led the task force and the Neman operation, was brilliantly played eleven years ago by Yevgeny Mironov. In the new series, this image will be embodied by the tragedy writer Alexander Yatsenko, who deeply found something similar to the new hero: “He has a splinter in his heart. It was written out specifically so he wasn’t Rambo. It suits me, I have stents. I really understand Alekhine in this regard, what it is like when you are pale and covered in sweat.

STARLEY TAMANTSEV

Alekhine’s faithful assistant, the dashing senior lieutenant Tamantsev, who both secured and helped “rock” the saboteurs, getting invaluable enemy coordinates, was played in the film by Vladislav Galkin. And in the series, the no less charismatic Alexei Makarov is responsible for this image, who, by the way, also starred in the 2001 film (as a tank major).

VARIOUS ABVER MISHCHENKO

The image of the main villain, the senior group of saboteurs “Neman”, Ivan Mishchenko (according to forged documents – Captain Elatomtsev) in the picture of Ptashuk was embodied by the sinister Alexander Baluev. In Vinogradov’s series, Alexey Kravchenko was approved for this role. “It is not always interesting to show the villains directly,” the artist is sure. “I want it to be totally unexpected. For viewers, this is always, in a good way, a painful perception. If they see the hero and get a complete shifter.

GENERAL EGOROV

In the film, Aleksey Petrenko brilliantly portrayed the head of the counterintelligence department of the 3rd Belorussian Front, Lieutenant General Yegorov. In the series, this character was played by a slightly less powerful, but no less authoritative Andrei Smolyakov.

LITTENANT BLINOV

One of the first memorable roles of Yuri Kolokolnikov was the image of a trainee of the SMERSH task force, Lieutenant Blinov in the film “In August 44 …”. In the series, this role was assigned to Alexander Dudenkov.

The REN TV series “Operation Neman” will be released in 2023.
