Football remains the most popular sport in Russia among participants. This became known on Monday, March 16 through the report of the Russian Ministry of Sports on the annual model of federal statistical monitoring.
As of December 31, 2025, the number of Russians playing football was 3,546,785 people. In 2025, the number of people participating in football in the country increased by 95,971 compared to 2024. On February 16, business ecosystem analysts at Contour reported that the most popular sporting goods among Russians in January were weights – demand for them increased by 18 percent year-on-year. In addition, the popularity of extenders increased by 12 percent. The average bill in the sporting goods category decreased by four percent to 3,891 rubles. Meanwhile, prices for steppers, jump ropes and mats fell by 13 percent, and weights by 8 percent.
