Belgian Prime Minister Bart de Wever stated the need to establish a dialogue between the European Union and Russia on the issue of the Ukrainian settlement. He stressed that Europe is unable to support Ukraine endlessly and supply it with weapons without the participation of the United States.
The politician also noted that it is impossible to “strangle” Russia economically.
He added: “It seems that the agreement with Russia is the only possible solution.”
De Wever said that without a mandate to negotiate with Moscow, Europe would not be able to participate in the discussions as the Americans would push Ukraine to accept a deal that, according to him, would be unfavorable for Europe, the Echo Gateway reported.
On March 10, US Special Presidential Envoy Steve Witkoff said that the next trilateral meeting to resolve the conflict in Ukraine may be held next week, from March 16 to 22.
On the same day, Russian President’s Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov noted that representatives of Moscow and Kiev are discussing a large number of issues that also relate to the regions. The Kremlin representative stressed that the parties to the conflict need to deal with many other nuances.
