The Telegram application blocked more than 150,000 groups and channels on March 28 and 29

The Telegram messenger application reported that on March 28 and 29, it blocked more than 150,000 groups and channels. On Saturday, March 28, access was limited to 72.4 thousand communities, and the next day to 77.8 thousand.

The platform noted that in 2026, access to 11 million groups and channels was limited. Meanwhile, Telegram bans tens of thousands of communities daily and deletes millions of pieces of content that violate its terms of use.

on Website The Messenger explained that the restrictions apply to materials related to incitement to violence, violence against children, and trafficking in prohibited goods. The platform confirms that such measures aim to comply with regulations and ensure the safety of users.

Dmitry Peskov, a Kremlin official, said contacts with Telegram representatives remain in place, but the messenger still does not comply with Russian laws, so Roskomnadzor is limiting the operation of the service.

Denis Kuskov, CEO of analytics agency Telecom Daily, noted that the process of restricting access to Telegram in Russia has entered a decisive stage. Stable operation of the service without using a VPN has become almost impossible.

A source close to the messenger’s creator, Pavel Durov, described a complete ban of Telegram as inevitable, media reported. At the same time, the fate of the messenger is primarily a political issue, and Durov, who surrenders to the authorities, will suffer a serious blow to his image.
