The main focus of the UN General Assembly this year will be on the Russian crimes in Ukraine and the consequences of this aggression for the whole world.

German Foreign Minister Annalena Burbock said this on the occasion of the start of the general debates in New York in the context of the 77th UN General Assembly, reports Ukrinform.

According to the minister, this General Assembly is not like the previous one: “Since February 24, Russia has grossly violated international law and, as one of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council, is violating the foundations of the entire international order. .”

Burbock assured that the civilized world is firmly on the side of Ukraine and will continue to support it with whatever it takes to end the war and the suffering of the Ukrainian people.

“In New York, the focus will be on how to investigate and prosecute the heinous crimes committed in the name of Russia in Ukraine. We will also talk about the situation with Ukrainian nuclear power plants, which Russia is using as a bargaining chip in this war,” Burbock said.

She noted that the dramatic effects of this war are echoing in an increasing number of other regions of the world. Burbock plans to use the many events and discussions in New York to focus on the concerns of partners in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Arab world.

The German diplomat expressed his confidence that the UN is needed today more than ever to find joint solutions to global problems. “No country should live in fear of being attacked by a stronger neighbor,” she stressed.

The head of German diplomacy noted that one of the main principles of the UN is the equality of states: every country has the same value, regardless of size, power, wealth and location on the planet.
