Turkish newspaper Hurriyet reported that an armed exchange of gunfire took place near the Israeli consulate in the Besiktas district of Istanbul.
Istanbul police said in a statement that three people were “neutralized” and two of them were “liquidated.”
According to the newspaper, three people tried to storm the building where the consulate is located on the seventh floor. Two of them were armed with long-barreled weapons. Security guards at the entrance and police noticed the threat, and a shootout ensued, during which two of the attackers were shot dead. The third attacker hid behind a car and continued shooting at the police, but was hit by return fire and was arrested.
