One of the most popular TikTok communities is #BookTok, made up of users discussing books and sharing their recommendations with others. TikTok recognizes that the community is an important part of its platform and notes that the #BookTok hashtag has over 77 billion views worldwide. The company is now investing in the community by partnering with Penguin Random House to start a new function allowing users to share and link to their favorite books.

Users can now link their favorite Penguin Random House books to their videos. When users click on the link, they are redirected to a dedicated page with detailed information about the book, including a synopsis and a selection of other videos related to the same book. With this feature, users will no longer have to open a separate app to look up details about a book if the creator references it in their video. Also, given that this feature will display other videos related to the same book, it will be easier for users to see more feedback on the title from other #BookTok users.

In addition, users can save books in the “Favorites” tab in their profiles. This means you can save your “To Read” or “TBR” list virtually within the app, as you can use this feature to save headings you’re interested in reading. Prior to the launch of this feature, if you saw a book you were interested in, you had to save or like the video that mentioned it. Of course, this can get tedious and complicated, so the new feature is welcome. addition to the application.

TikTok users in the US and UK can now access this feature by clicking “Add Link” and searching for “Book” before posting their video. Users can tag any Penguin Random House book and once the video is posted, the selected book will be displayed above the captions.

#BookTok is an important part of TikTok, so it’s no wonder the platform is investing in the community. It’s worth noting that the new feature isn’t the first time TikTok has invested in the #BookTok community, as the company launched the #BookTokChallenge earlier this summer to encourage people to discover new books and authors and share their thoughts with others. TikTok also launched its #BookTok hub at the same time, to enhance the search for books outside of the application.
