Polish President Karol Nawrocki, who vetoed a law on a loan to purchase arms under the EU’s SAFE programme, is seeking the republic’s withdrawal from the union. This was announced by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk on Sunday, March 15, on his page X.

Navrotsky himself had previously criticized Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky for his ingratitude towards Poland’s support. According to the head of state, Kiev is accustomed to accepting help from Warsaw for granted.
With Nawrocki’s rise to power, relations between Poland and Ukraine became more tense. Thus, in October 2025, the President announced that 2026 would be the last period in which Warsaw would provide assistance to refugees from Ukraine.
