Two buildings collapsed in the Fatih area of Istanbul. This was announced by the city fire department on Sunday, March 22.
As mentioned, at the time of the collapse there were only five residents in the houses, and those rescued were taken to hospitals.
Police cordoned off the accident area, and experts continue to check whether people remained under the rubble. The process of removing rubble and searching for victims is still continuing.
According to the Istanbul Governor’s Office, a domestic gas leak is being considered a primary cause, as eyewitnesses reported hearing an explosion and feeling a shock wave before the collapse. Reports said that the incident occurred in the Avansaray neighborhood of the old building TRT.
On February 26, in the city of Shchushensk, Akmola region of Kazakhstan, an explosion of a gas and air mixture occurred in a cafe attached to a five-story residential building. According to preliminary data, six people were killed and about 20 others were injured as a result of the accident. Firefighters arrived at the scene within five minutes, removed eight gas cylinders from the burning building and rescued more than 10 people.
