Moscow courts sentenced students Maxim Khievets and Nikita Ulanov to 15 days in prison for participating in an “unauthorized” event against the blocking of Bolotnaya Square, the Moscow Courts press service reported.
The penalty was imposed on Khievets by the Chertanovsky District Court of Moscow, and on Ulanova – by the Kuzminsky District Court of Moscow. Decisions were made on March 25.
Both students were charged with disobeying the orders of a police officer (Part 1 of Article 19.3 of the Administrative Code).
The press service of the Moscow courts did not specify what event they were talking about or when and in what form it happened.
After the blocking on the Telegram application was tightened, videos appeared on social media calling on people to go out in protests on March 29. It is not known who organizes these movements (and whether there is a central organization). In several cities, requests to organize marches were approved, but the authorities have already begun withdrawing approvals.
Accounts calling for marches against internet blackouts were run by anonymous members of the Scarlet Swan movement. Opposition activists and journalists suggested that the project may be a provocation by Russian security forces.
On March 26, the Russian Interior Ministry issued a statement warning of administrative and criminal liability for participation in uncoordinated marches. It states that all attempts to hold such events will be stopped immediately, and their organizers and participants will be detained.
