Tyler Adams insists the United States are not intimidated by Gareth Southgate’s England.

The Three Lions started their World Cup campaign in brilliant fashion by beating Iran 6-2 in their Group B opener on Monday.

England next meet the United States, with the Americans entering Friday’s game at Al Bayt Stadium after sharing a 1-1 draw with Wales.

“We’re looking forward to bouncing back and now have the opportunity to do so against a good team,” said USA captain and Leeds midfielder Adams. “We are not intimidated. We know their quality.

“I had the opportunity to play against a lot of them in the Premier League this year, but we have a good team too.”

The United States, Qatar’s second youngest side after Ghana, showed their athleticism and energy to dominate the first half against Wales.

Chelsea striker Christian Pulisic was a constant danger and produced a magnificent through ball to set up Timothy Weah’s clinical strike.

“He’s an amazing player,” Adams said of Pulisic. “What you saw on goal is probably the only player on the pitch who can set this game up.

“It’s a glimpse of what he can do. He’s super talented and he’s going to be an integral part of us going forward.

Wales fought back in the second half with the introduction of target Kieffer Moore allowing them to put USA under pressure, with Gareth Bale’s late penalty securing the split.

Adams said: “Maybe a bit of fatigue sets in and you lose a bit of focus. You have to keep being able to adapt and handle the game.

“It’s about winning the games to come now. You have to concentrate and try to bounce back against a very good team in England.
