Up to one and a half thousand children remain in the Izyum destroyed by the invaders of the Kharkov region, in total in the city – up to 17 thousand inhabitants.

Volodymyr Matsokin, deputy mayor of Izyum, said this during a briefing at the Ukraine-Ukrinform Media Center.

“There are still between 15 and 17 thousand inhabitants, and they are “abnormally” many children – about one and a half thousand today. Unfortunately, they are not covered by the training, as there is no internet,” says Matsokin.

Before the eviction, the city council roughly estimated that 12-20 thousand residents did not leave the city.

Due to large-scale destruction, people live in super difficult living conditions.

“There is no electricity in the city. Gas is supplied to one region only from the Spivakovskoye field. And this covers about 20% of the population, but before you understand, gas is supplied in such a mode that the kettle boils for about 20 minutes. The plumbing is not working. Sewerage obviously doesn’t work. Electricity is restored, water supply can be discussed centrally. People are now being saved at the expense of wells, wells that are located in the city. Technical needs come from the Seversky Donets, but it has yet to be met as the area is being mined,” Matsokin said.

As reported, Izyum has been subject to massive shelling and air strikes since early March. On March 27, the first invaders entered the city at the hands of local traitors. From April 2, Izyum was completely captured. The invaders disagreed on humanitarian corridors. At least a thousand people died.

The city was liberated on September 10 thanks to a large-scale counter-offensive by the armed forces of Ukraine. Law enforcement officers then found six dungeons in Izyum, furnished by the occupiers.

On September 16, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that more than 400 bodies had been found in the mass grave in liberated Izyum, including those with signs of torture. The dead include children and members of Ukraine’s armed forces. On the evening of September 20, the bodies of 263 dead, including two children, were seized.
