Wall Street gets late boost from Twitter announcement

Stocks jumped late in the session on Monday, and all three major US stock indexes ended higher, after Twitter agreed to be bought by Elon Musk.
Nasdaq ended up more than 1% and Twitter gained 5.7% after it announced it would be bought by Musk in a deal between the social media company and Musk, the world’s richest person.
The Dow and S&P 500 had been lower for most of the session, extending a recent market selloff, with energy shares leading declines among S&P 500 sectors.
The focus this week will also be on earnings, with nearly a third of S&P 500 index companies due to report this week including major growth names such as Google-owner Alphabet and Microsoft.
