Telegram founder Pavel Durov has called on users in Russia to update their apps so they can stay in touch despite the ban on the messenger.

“We have updated Telegram’s anti-censorship protocol,” Durov wrote on his Telegram channel.

Some additional tips: Stock up on a few VPNs/proxies in advance, help your friends and family do the same, and avoid using Russian apps when connecting to a VPN (they may report your VPN to the authorities to block it). I’m glad to see that most people are already doing this. Thanks to this digital resistance, Telegram usage in Russia has remained stable over the past week, despite the complete ban.

Durov promised that the messenger will continue to improve its decentralized technology to combat censorship.
