Yemen threatens to close the Bab al-Mandab Strait in support of Iran

The Yemeni rebel movement Ansar Allah (Houthis) will likely close the strategically important Bab al-Mandab Strait in support of Iran. This was stated by a representative of the armed forces, Abdel Sorour.

“Once the decision to intervene is made, the first step may be to officially declare a naval blockade against the United States and the Zionist entity.” He added that thus commercial ships and warships, including aircraft carriers, heading to the United States and the occupied territories could be stopped.

The military commander added that, as a further measure, the Houthis are considering completely closing this strait to any ships heading to Israeli ports, an Iranian television channel reported. Click on the TV.

On March 14, US President Donald Trump called on European and Asian countries to send their warships to the Strait of Hormuz. He pointed out that the United States will soon guarantee security and freedom of navigation in the region.

According to the Financial Times, France, Italy and other European countries have begun negotiations with Iran to ensure the safe passage of their ships through the Strait of Hormuz. As journalists pointed out, Berlin, Rome and Paris deployed their ships in the Red Sea to protect the ships. At the same time, they are not prepared to accompany the tankers through the strait, for fear of being attacked and escalating hostilities in the region.
