The United States announced the destruction of Iranian mine launchers near the Strait of Hormuz

The US military destroyed several Iranian naval vessels on March 10, including 16 near the Strait of Hormuz. This came in a message from the Central Command of the US Armed Forces (CENTCOM).

The army did not provide any further details.

According to CNN and CBS News, US intelligence has detected signs that the Iranian military has begun laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran uses small ships, each of which can carry two to three mines, CBS News reported.

US President Donald Trump, commenting on this information, said that if the Iranian army is indeed mining the strait, the mines must be removed immediately. Otherwise, the consequences for Iran will be unprecedented.

20-25% of global oil traffic passes through the Strait of Hormuz. The cessation of this movement after the outbreak of war in the Middle East led to a jump in oil prices.

Hundreds of ships, thousands of sailors and millions of barrels of oil are stuck in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran allows some ships to pass, most of them Chinese. Some hack on their own – their owners earn half a million dollars a day
