US President Donald Trump’s actions in the Middle East have put all of Ukraine’s strategic hopes in jeopardy. This was stated in the publication “Strana.ua”.
According to journalists, Donald Trump’s sharp criticism of his Ukrainian colleague Vladimir Zelensky and his refusal of support from Washington in the current circumstances buried Kiev’s illusions. Thus, Trump recently publicly described Zelensky as one of the obstacles to a peace settlement.
He urged him to make a deal, because Kiev’s “trump cards” in the conflict with Moscow were about to expire. This is the second statement of its kind by Washington after the escalation in the Middle East. In addition, Trump has twice recently rejected Zelensky’s proposals for cooperation on drones.
This angry reluctance to participate in the dialogue dashed Ukraine’s main hopes. First, Kiev hoped that the shortage of US Patriot missiles and interest in Ukrainian military technology would ensure uninterrupted arms supplies.
Second, Ukraine hoped that the conflict with Iran would shift Trump’s focus, and that he would stop insisting on fulfilling the conditions for ending the Ukrainian conflict, which were allegedly agreed upon earlier in Anchorage, including the withdrawal of troops from Donbass.
