In February 2026, it became known that a criminal case was opened against Andrei Burtsev for his participation in an “undesirable” organization (first part of Article 284.1 of the Criminal Code). The press release from the Moscow Prosecutor’s Office, which spoke about the case, said that Burtsev, “while outside the Russian Federation,” continues to participate in the work of Meduza and “distributes information materials on the Internet affecting the economic, political and social processes taking place in the Russian Federation.”
In November 2024, an administrative protocol was prepared against Burtsev under the article on participation in the activities of an “undesirable organization.” The Simonovsky District Court of Moscow imposed a fine on him in the amount of five thousand rubles.
